Change to Use of Registration Marks (attendance Codes)

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scottish Government instructed schools to use additional attendance and absence codes to identify pupils absences attributed to COVID including whether these were positive cases, close contact self-isolation or parental choice.

In line with nation Guidance, from today (Tuesday 19 April 2022) all schools should stop using the COVID-19 registration codes and revert to using only the pre-pandemic SEEMIS Attendance and Absence codes.

This change reflects the fact that there will no longer be a means of validating whether an absence is due to Covid-19. The Scottish Government will still collect attendance and absence data on a daily basis but will only report on overall attendance and absence, with no split by Covid-19 being possible.
